just picked up a 69 short wide f100. the guy said it has a 390. not sure, it has a four barrel, and i cannot find anywhere that the 69 f100 came with a four barrel. please point me in the right direction. if its a rare setup, then i will have it rebuilt, if not i will just drop another engine in. thanks

I had this same problem a few years ago on my 1970 f-100 Ranger.  It's probably either a 360 or 390.  You generally cannot tell just by eyeballing it because the block is exactly the same for both.  The best way to find out is to decode the VIN.  There is a sequence in the VIN that designates the type of engine.  write down your VIN and find a decoder online.  Of course, this assumes the engine is original

good luck!
