I recently purchased a 1959 apache 31. I have the stepside bed with the spare tire cut out. Now to my question i have been looking at pictures of the different apaches and I am not sure what the specific bed is but i like the bed that has what i call the rockets they look to be about 6 feet long or so or what year apache did those beds come on and is it possible to swap beds. Any information would be appreciated

Newbie,
Congrats on the Classic Truck! What you see are the 1958 to 1959 Chevy and GMC Pickups with the "FLEETSIDE" optional beds.
They were an option in 1958 and were the answer to the Dodge and Ford versions of a wider all steel bed. The Fleetside bed was introduced in mid 1958 and was the bed that replaced and phased out the the Fiberglass Bed on the Chevrolet Cameo and the GMC Suburban Carrier.
The Fleetside bed came as a short and a long bed. The short goes with the 114" wheelbase and the long went with the 123-1/4" wheel-based trucks
The Fleetside beds have finally gone full circle and have become VERY popular again (mainly because they say everyone has a done a Stepside and they want something different.
What you need to do is join as many 55-59 Truck Forums as you can find, and look at the "classifieds" If you are LUCKY you may just find one.

rico_bob,
I have a 1959 3100 and i wanted to know if what new beds will fit on the truck .. I have seen some newer beds on some of the 55-59 trucks and didnt know what kind have been done and what ones are easy to do. I know some cutting and welding needed to the bed mounts are to be made.
thanks camaro_joe
