does anyone know if a 70 Nova gas tank sender will work with a 53 Chevy PU guage (12 volt)

I think the original sending unit went from 0-30ohms. Just measure the resistance of the nova unit and see if it matches

why not just buy a after market sending unit it will work better. you can buy it at e-bay or the truck shop

You should be able to get one through LMC also.
