I've got a 69 Chevy C/20, 350/T400 that has a problem with sucking oil out of the passenger side valve cover. It has a pcv smog system (required in NV). Possibly the original engine, 32k on the odometer, second or third time around. It has plenty of power, no miss or hesitation, but has a rough idle. I've only had it a little over a year. I tried running a wire coat hanger down through the rear oil drain hole in the head ( thought it might be plugged up), didn't help. The pcv valve is in the drivers side valve cover and the hose goes into the front of the rebuilt Quadrajet 4bl carb. The passenger side has a hose that runs from the valve cover to a spacer between the carb and the air cleaner. It's not too bad until I get her up to freeway speed. By then it's pulling so much oil out that it blows it all over the motor, exhaust manifold and inner fender. What a mess!! Any suggestions?? Help!!

Have you replaced the PCV valve?. If it's on the second or third time around on the mileage clock, ya might wanna consider a complete rebuild or a crate engine.I know that's probably not what ya wanted to hear, but sometimes we just have to bite the bullet and accept the painful truth that she's in need of some serious attention.

Replacing the pcv valve was the first thing I did. I can't afford to do any major mechanical work on it right now. Thought maybe someone might have an easy fix. I've thought about maybe replacing the pcv valve and the other hose with breathers in the valve covers and eliminate the spacer and hose between the carb and the air filter. Not that big a deal to replace it once a year when it comes time to smog it. I don't know if this would help the problem or not. What do u think?

It's worth a try. You have to make it breath better, one way or the other. Let us how it works out

it sounds a little like you may have a burnt valve i would do a compression test and see what you find.
