I have a 51, 5 window one ton dually that I wish to make a pickup out of. I understand that the best frame to use would be the longbed S-10 frame. I can't seem to find any S-10 longbed frames. Is there another frame that would work and give me IFS for my 51? I would also like to find a original short bed. What about a 66 Chevy half ton frame?  Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

Have you tried EBay? There are plenty of S-10s around southern California where I am at.

hi my husbands 1987 toyota 4x4 was just rolled only body damage and only 90k orig miles on engine. I have ALWAYS wanted to mount a 54 Chevy 5 window on a jeep chassis however, now I have a great chassis but dont know if there is a way to mount a 54 Chevy body on it. Any advice or directions to a website would be great,,if it can be done then I will be on the lookout for the body too. Are the new kits any good.

Is there another frame that has been used by somebody that would work just as good?

It does not have to be a S10 long bed. You can use a extended cab frame from a S10. Should be the same wheelbase as the original frame.

S-10 extended cab is 10 -inches too long but you can grind and cut the chassis to the length of the long beds.  Other chassis would be early Montys and medium full chassis cars from the seventies.

They say 88-92 is best, but I guess any year might work. I'm in Oklahoma City.

Hello, I built a 55-59 truck using a 1983 chevy 1/2 ton frame. The only modifications I had to do was to relocate the rear end a few inches forward so the tires would be centered in the wheel openings, Fabricate new front cab mounts and fab up the radiator support mounting brackets. The job is clean, you have a solid frame no cutting and welding two pieces together and full IFS with power sterring, breaks the total package at a fraction of the cost of a ms2 or total cost package! Good Luck

Be warned on the full size truck chassis.  Your wheels will stick out past the fenders on the 55 1st and older trucks.  55 2nd and newer have wider bodies and the full size chassis will fit fine

You are absolutly right, 1st series are a narrower truck. Only the second series works like a charm. My truck has the tires tucked under the fenders and sits on the ground! Good point on the first series trucks!

There is so many ways to run suspension under early trucks each one idea has advantages over others. People use the S10 because of the wheel base and that it is already complete. I have a friend that is doing a 5 window at the moment and has the templates for the firewall for the brakes etc. As for the lady with the Toyota chassies, you can do anything with a welder and a plasma cutter, but don't tell anyone you have a Toyota under the Chev.

Has anyone ever used the 67-72 frame for the 47-52 body and bed frame swap?
