Hi All

I am new to the forum and was wondering if anyone could tell me if there is any difference in the cab used on a 47-54 chev pick up and a larger truck of the same year, like a 2 or 3 ton truck. I know the front fenders are cut out larger for bigger wheels, but the cab looks to be the same. Is it physically larger all over, doors, hood, etc?

Here is something to start with. As far as I know the cab is the same. But I think they had a different floor pan and possibly the firewall. Now I haven't physically played with that year, but I have with the 55-59, 67-72 and the 89-99.The floor pan was different because of the location of the motor. Now here is something to ponder on. The mind set that I just memtioned is what I believe to be correct.
BUT this may possibly through my theory out when it comes to 47.
I have a 47 Ford COE , I believe the doors to be longer and are arched for the fender. The cab has different marking around the centre, and it may physically be larger, at this present time I am yet to compare measurements. So my point is, Ford and Chev did follow each other quite a ***
So my further point is I know the other years are the same on the outside but did Chevy follow Ford for that particular year?

I have the Shop Manual for the 48-51 models.   From all I have seen, you are correct that the fenders are cutlarger on the 1, 1 and 1/2 and 2 Ton.   The cabs use the same windshield, doors panels etc.

The common years would be 47 to 53.  A 1954 cab does have some minor differences in replacement parts.

Trivia....
There is a small difference tho between the years..  the 47 and 48 cabs are flexibly mounted at 3 points,  While the 49 and newer cabs is flexibly mounted at 4 points.  I assume there are some good ideas on how these can be swapped, but I would consider this if you are looking for a totally new cab.

Jim Carter's catalog is a good place to go for more part specifics and history of what changed per year..

good luck

Actually, 47-50 doors are the same. 51 has early door handles, and vent vindows. 52-55 has push-button door handles, and vent window.

Pickup doors will fit truck cabs.  I know, because I have 51 1/2ton doors on my 49 1 1/2ton.
