Hey All, Does anyone know witch wire is the acc wire and what one is the ground wire. Someone hacked up the ignition switch wires and Im putting a new switch and connecting the wires back togather. I found a green wire and a black wire left disconnected. The connector is missing one wire and the other one is white. So does anyone know if the green coming out of the wiring harness is the ground or is the black ground? What color is the acc wire? Thanks Tony

I don't have the coding for that year, but if you have a Multimeter you can test the circuit. Run the meter  on Ohms and check the black against the body to see if the circuit is complete. You can check the switch for the circuits also. The back of the switch is probably labelled. One of the wires (probably the red) is the constant power which should be live when you connect the battery, the other heavy duty wire is probably the accessary. One will be coil the other will be starter. If you run power to either one of these you can check which is which,Hence the answer to your question. Plus I would get a book on that model with a wiring diagram for the future, you will need it.

Thanks, I will get the meter out tomorrow and check it. The truck was running but not good. He had 3 wires twisted together.{RED,PINK and PURPLE} I see the only 2 not connected are the acc and ground. I beleive the factory put them there for a reason so I will have to figure out what ones the ground for sure. What reading should I get if the black wire is the ground? What reading should I get on the acc wire. Thanks

Hey All, Ok im confused now. I looked at the wiring diagram and you can see that the brown wire is the acc wire and the green is the ground. If you look at the diagram and then look at the orignal switch, it looks like they have the two wires backward. they show the ground wire to the acc and the acc wire to the ground. Would yall hook the wires up to the switch as its labeled. They even have the pink and purple wires flip flopped. I guess maybe they didnt know how the real switch was labeled?? What do you guys think? I guess I cant go wrong if I hook the wires up the the switch as its labeled. Thanks for any input.

I would still check the switch to determine the position of COIL, STARTER etc. When the circuit is complete in the ohms position it should zero out. This check is done with no power in that circuit. To check the switch change the meter to DC and find which wire is live. Use this wire( which will probably be the main wire from the fuse box or battery), connect it to the main terminal on the switch as per wiring diagram and turn the switch and read which terminal has 12 volts..
