Alright, as you can tell from my username, I'm a Mopar guy. But, I'm in the middle of a trade. I'm getting a 78 Dodge Club Cab W300 Power Wagon and a 68 Chevy C20 Long Box (3/4 ton).
Anyways, I really don't know much about the Chevy and was hoping you guys could tell me any other info about the truck (I can't really seem to find anything on the 68 3/4 ton long box... plenty on the 1/2 ton and the short boxes). Also, I plan on selling it as soon as I get it (I'm mainly in the trade for the Club Cab)...so any estimates on what all of you think I can sell it for would be great! Okay... after doing some research and having time to think things through... I think I may make this a keeper... I'm sort of liking the idea of have the 68 and driving it... so maybe I'm turning into a "MopEvy" guy
Here is what I know of the truck as of right now (I haven't seen it yet, but hey, I'm getting 2 trucks for 1... so I'm not doing too bad). I also have pics that I'm going to try to post too.
Info the guy told me: -1968 Chevy C20 3/4 ton -2 wheel drive -307 engine -4 speed with granny low -456 rear end -No power steering -No power brakes (1 wheel cylinder is leaking, but can pump the brakes and they will hold but will bleed down by the next stop light) -New heater core -Dash is perfect, no cracks -Start of a hole where your heel rests while driving -Expanding foam in the rockers -He says overall a really solid truck. -Bed has rust, both inside and out -Interior is rough, but not horrid -Almost all the original stainless trim still on it -Says it starts right up, just pull the choke, pump it once and it fires right off.
Thanks! Calvin

Well I had a 68 myself but it was a shortbed stepside. I guess you don't see too much on the 3/4 ton because there not so much of a sort after truck, but then again why follow the Joan's. I guess I would up grade the suspension to power discs. I was not a fan of the old, no power drums. I know people like them but I really don't think they ever drove one with power discs. Sounds like you can do a lot of upgrading, eg. adding sports dash,AC etc. Well there certainly enough repro parts out there to do the job. The only thing you will be dealing with is the guys that will say, WHY A 3/4 ton long bed. Guess it doesn't also help when they shortened the GET SHORTY truck.

I still have 3 or 4 in my yard. Long, short, step, fleet, etc. If the cab and front clip are good, just put it on a 71-72 short frame and have 5lug discs and a short box. I have those too. I could also fix you up with a 71-72long rolling chassis, stick or automatic, it would make it half ton with 5 lug disc. Go to; TNCHEV.com click on the contact card, it will give you an idea of my yard. I have 60+ parts trucks and a dozen complete trucks. 67-72 chevy/gmc only, trucks, blazers and suburbans. I just brought in two 68 3/4 tons, one panel and one long stepside. Dean@tnchev

Thespecialist... thanks for the info... I was wondering why there wasn't much info on the 3/4 ton... even though it might not be sought after much... I agree with you on the "following the Jones"... plus I've always been partial to the 3/4 and 1 ton stuff, so it actually works out for me. And as far as the brake upgrade... I will have to check that out too and see what's involved and what options I have. I've driven no power drums before but I have to agree... power disk is much better.
tnchev... thanks for the lead on parts... once I get possession of it (which sounds like this weekend) I will have to see what it needs and check out what you have available... until then a lot of it would probably just be guessing, which doesn't really help either of us. As far as dropping it onto a 1/2 ton, I'd prefer to keep it as a 3/4 ton, so that would be more the route I'd look towards heading down.

That's right JONES, geez I couldn't think at the time. Actually I do like the 1 ton idea. But here is something of interest. I have a custom set of fibreglass fenders that were mouldered off an original set of stepside fenders but then remoulded to match the side of the fleetside to turn it into a duellie. I have been meaning to build a crewcab duellie for many a year. I still have the Right hand cab here in California. I still have the fenders sitting in my trailer, as far as I know there is only 3 sets in existance.

If you stay a 3/4 ton, your highest rear end ratio, 8 lug, will be 410, 456 will give you a 65mph top end. I have a good duellie rearend if you are interested in staying low. Otherwise, I would suggest going to 5 or 6 lug and getting to a 307 rearend. Any questions, just ask. Dean@tnchev
