Hello all:

I have called a 100 parts suppliers and have not been able to find the brake drums for my '51 3600 3/4 ton. The front drums are 11" and the rear drums are 12". Also, I have not been able to find the brake shoes.

Any suggestions on who to contact would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,
Mike

I have 2 good front drums for you.

In fact they are currently posted on Craigslist St. Louis if you would like to correspond.  Maybe we can figure something out.

LMC has the rear drums for the 53 3/4 ton (#34-3960)
           front drums (#34-3955)

Ain't cheap, but if LMC has them so does every other on line company.  I'm surprised NAPA don't have them.  They have everything for my 53 1/2 ton.

These are the same drums that fit 53 to 59 3/4 tons

You just have to find that NAPA guy that is into old cars and knows where to look in the books. I'm lucky mine is into old corvairs and comes up with parts for all my old trucks back to the 48.

Mike,

So, Huntington is generally right on the money...  I would call LMC or Brothers or Jim Carter first before purchasing on line.    What you may find is these drums are for 1953 3/4 ton trucks.  I'm not sure of the difference (might be the integrated spindle) But my 1950 3600 drums look a little different and are 8 lug.

Any way.. you can check these out at http://stlouis.craigslist.org/pts/1096987695.html

good luck

Hi OlBlue, Huntingtin:

I have tried those suppliers and have found some rear drums; the fronts remain elusive. As I understand it, the '51 3/4 ton was the only truck not to switch to bendix, thus need the huck style brakes. 1/2 ton parts seem to be readily available - the 3600 - 3/4 ton not so much. Any other suggestions greatly appreciated. Regards, Mike

Mike,

Correct,  Mine are definitely Hucks, which was one of the reason I switched out the axle and went with power disk brakes.  If you want my 3600 front drums they are  yours, other wise I'll save them for the next swap meet.

Thanks very much Ol'Blue. Can you tell me what condition they are in, how many turns left? Also, what are you asking for them?

Regards,
Michael

Mike, please check if you have a note under "messages" and we can talk on the phone.

I believe they are in pretty good shape and have plenty of material left if need to be turned.

Yo Pyrodave!  Where are you located?  I've got a set of front drums for a 51 3/4 ton with 8 lugs. They still have the 17" splitring wheels on them. Also still on the axle. I'm changing the whole frontend out for a different front suspension. I'm in Ohio. If you're interested, they can be yours real cheap. Only one catch, ya gotta take the whole axle, wheels and all.

Hi There,

I'm new to the forum but have the same brake issue.  Looking for the eight bolt drum for a '51 3/4 ton.  Did you scrap yours yet and are they the real deal?

Anyone with help or ideas ship them to wetmore@nbnet.nb.ca

Thanks!
