I have recently come across a Catalina with a running 400 small block with trans for the price of free.  I am planning on putting it into my 1959 Apache to replace the straight six.  Am I just going to need to fabricate mounts for both the trans and engine or will the crossmembers Brothers sells work?

Can't really see you having a problem, but I am not clued up on the Catalina, check the oil pan configuration to make sure it is correct for the crossmember that you will be using.Plus make sure you keep the Catalina trans crossmember just in case you may need it to modify it for the truck. Actually it is probably advisable to keep the Catalina close by till you have done the job, there will be other parts you will need that maybe you have not yet thought of , e.g drive shaft........... KNOCK YOURSELF OUT   (ENJOY)

I have been considering using a 400 in my 58 project.  You will have to fabricate new engine mounts but that should not be too difficult.  I take it you are not installation IFS or a subframe?  If you are not and are looking at the tubular crossmember sold for SBC/BBC installs I think you will have to modify it to work for the poncho.  You might be better off boxing the frame rails and building supports off from the sides.  I have not done any more than visualize how this could be done so far so you are ahead of me.

As for the trans mount I would think you could use the aftermarket tubular crossmember available from several sources. Take pics.
