Hello to all! I am new here and just purchased a 1959 Apache shortbed stepside! I am going to remove the original 6 cylinder (runs & been rebuilt) and the 3 speed transmission and go with an automatic. I have a few people asking what I want for the combo. Anyone have any suggestions as to what they are worth???? They are both original!

Thanks, Greg

Check out Michael Taylor's 1959 Apache that runs a simple SB 350 combo you might be interested in. http://www.classictrucks.com/features/0807clt_1959_chevy_apache/american_racing_wheels_bfgoodrich.html

The SM318 really isn't worth much, as most people, who stay with a 3-speed, opt for a Muncie, or later Saginaw, instead.
The motor value really dependson the mileage and condition.  If it is low mileage, and doesn't use much oil, I'd start at $500 or best resonable offer.  A good buildable core is still worth a couple hundred.
