I've got a 55 panel with the original 6 & 4 speed manual.  The engine is pretty worn out.  I am considering putting in a 302 & automatic tranny, Have no real idea what rear end to put in...
I would love to hear from anyone who's been down this road and has any suggestions about a new powerplant/drive train for my panel.

Find a donor car that has the engine and trans that you want and use the rear end from same vehicle. that way everything is matched
Also check out Clifford Research 6=8. You would be surprised how much you can get out of those hot water sixes.. Dude
