I blew ou a 235 Tranny from a 62 Chevy C-10, I am looking for a great repairman in Covina CA, that can either fix of replace my transmision.

OR-- Looking for a 3 speed (manual overdrive OK) transmission for my 235 straight 6.

OR suggestions on how to get my baby running again!!
Thanks
CK

If your three speed is original 1962 I assume it's a non synchro 1st gear-not easy to drive and probably not worth repairing unless you are looking for pure originality. I assume you don't want to swap in a 4 speed because of possibly budget or installation difficulties. Early Muncie 4 speeds are nearly impossible to find in junk yards (though you can buy new ones as well as T10 4 speeds but they are not cheap). You might want to look for a full synchro 3 speed or early saginaw 4 speed as a good performance improvement for your '62. These can be found in wrecking yards and want ads fairly cheap.

Maybe someone else might know the year that Chevy switched to the full synchro 3 speed. Also unless you have already done it get rid of the column shift and look for a universal floor shifter (easy install and inexpensive).

Good luck - hope you get it back on the road.

I know they used the SM318 up through 65, as I have one(with the Borg-Warner R10 overdrive). Mine isn't for sale, though.  I've seen them in big cars, and 1/2ton pickups.  If you score one, try to get the wiring harness and lockout cable.

IMHO, I'd convert to a later Saginaw or Muncie.  A good wide-ratio Saginaw should run $100-150. Modding the shift linkage should be fairly simple.  Modding the driveshaft will be harder. Depends on what tranny you use. Maybe just a conversion joint, or maybe a different yoke and tube.  Most Saginaw's I've seen have the same slip yoke at a TH350. Can't say about Muncie's.

If you want to spend some big bucks, try and find a 66-69 Saginaw overdrive.
