I just bought a 52 chevy pu body. It is setting on a frame that looks to be 6 inch channel. It has coil spring rear suspension and A frame front for drum brakes. I have a wrecked 1997 1500 chevy pu.Can I cut the frame on the 97 to fit the 52 or should I graft the suspension and drive line to the frame that is under the 52 ? Where do I find out how to cut frames and graft suspension parts.
Jeanette , are you saying the frame presently under your '52 isn't the stock frame ? Is the rear suspension a trailing arm design such as found on a mid 60's Chevy truck ? Since the front suspension has an A arm design , that is possibly the frame you have ? The '97 1500 frame would require major modification to fit your '52 body . More info and possibly pictures would be helpful?

It probably is a mid 60s chevy pu frame. It has trailing arms with coil springs and A arm front for drum brakes.the drums and one spindle are missing. The frame is 6 inch channel. The body is fit to the frame , but not bolted down. I know I would have to narrow the 97 frame , but it may not be worth the trouble. I want to use the disk brakes , air cond ,ps , and drive line (4.3 v-6). I also have an 1988 suburban I can use for parts. Jeanette
Just curious. What is wrong with the frame you currently have? The way I'm seeing it, if that frame is already fit to the body and has the A arms and good rear susp it would be more worth while in my mind to leave that as is and drop the v-6 in? Then from there you can get discs on the front etc... Either that or, rather than swapping the whole frame maybe just swap the front clip? You would have to shorten it either way. If you can give more information on what you have in mind for the over all outcome that may help.-Greg
The drivers side has had the top ball joint cut off. There is no place to bolt a new one. I have not looked at it in depth to see about a solution. I just got it up on jack stands. I want to build a daily driver / rod. I have a 97pu and an 88 suburban to use for parts. The frame under the 52 is ok except for the missing ball joint support. . I just want the disk brakes and ps off one of the other parts trucks to put on it. I already have the parts trucks so I want to use as many parts off them as possible. Jeanette69
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the control arms, spindles w/disc brakes from your 88 and 97 will not work on the chassis under your truck. The steering box from the 88 and 97 won't work either because it mounts on the inside of the front framerail, where as the box on your chassis mounts on the outside of the frame. On the up side the front suspension unit from 62-87 1/2 ton chevy's will bolt up to your frame. They should be readily available at your local salvage yard, at a reasonable price. The 72 and newer units will have disc brakes on them. Good Luck!
