I have the flathead 239 with a four speed, and I would love to take it on the interstate.......  but it tops out at 52 mph.....  is there an "easy" solution to this?  can i put a five speed in it?  is there a later model transmission that just bolts on?
thanks,
Rob

Understand that the primary issue is with your rear end gears and not necessarily the transmission.  I am getting to this part with my driveline as we speak, keep checking the replies you get as will I.  Thanks for asking this question!

The F-4 has the duel rear ?? Find a newer rear that has the tallest gear ratio that you can find . I used to run a 6 cylinder with a 55 ford milk truck trans and used a 63 f-100 rear with 3.77 gear and then changed to a 3.00 rear from a 63 Galaxie. I did not shift to fourth gear until 65 mph.
