i'm new to the forum (obviously), and i'm just about as new to classic trucks.

i recently became the proud owner of a '72 F100, and, so far, i'm impressed!
it needs work, mostly cosmetic, but i've always wanted one, and i'm happy as can be that i finally have my very own!

Nice truck, the rust damage doesn't look to bad in that photo. Where else do you have rust damage at?

just surface rust on the hood, the sides of the bed, and some in the corners of the bed. nothing a little sandpaper and a paint job can't fix!

and there's a bunch of little dents all along the sides of the bed and hood, but they're minor, so i'm not too worried.

it's a real straight body, with a 3 spd auto tranny, and a 302 (i think it even had a cam put in at some point!). i've had it a couple weeks, and i love it already!

So what are your plans for the restoration? Any modifications your thinking of?

first things first, it's got an oil leak that i was told was presumed to be the main seal, but when i opened the hood, all the valve cover bolts were finger tight. i tightened them up, and it didn't leak for almost 3 whole days, but they keep working themselves loose. i don't want to overtighten them, what should i do? threadlocker?

after that, it's all cosmetic. i'll need to get the small dents pulled out, then it's two tone paint, black and creme, and a two tone interrior. as of yesterday, i've begun debating dropping it 2 or 3 inches. still on the fence about that one.

For the oil leak maybe some new valve cover bolts could stop that leak. I bet LMC Trucks sells them. For the dropping, that would look good if you do it right.

when it comes time to drop it, i don't know whether i want to level it, or if i want to keep a forward rake to it.

i'm sort of leaning towards the rake. i think it gives it a mean stance.
