Lowering front end question...

Hi, I bought a 56 F100 years ago and now want to lower the front end 2" inches.
The 56' has a front clip from a 72 Chevy Caprice of all things.

Here's my dilema. (I'm a body and paint man so this isn't my forte.)

I heard that cutting springs or buying lowering springs is not a good idea, and that drop spindles are the way to go.

So I searched with google for hours trying to find out how people lower this GM clip with no real results. I couldn't find anything on drop spindles either!

SO - Does anyone know were I can get spindles for this? Do they make them for 72 Caprices?
Are there other options for lowering this front end?
ALL HELP EXTREMELY APPRECIATED!

Fatman Here.  I just checked my Hollanders Interchange, and your 72 Caprice spindle interchanges with 71-74 Full size Chevy, Buick, Olds, and Pontiac.  The bad news is that, to my knowledge, no one has a dropped spindle for those cars.  They have a 5" bolt circle, rather than the more common 4 3/4" Chevy pattern.  You can cut a full coil for a 2" drop, but that's about the limit without bottoming the suspension.  Then again, being as the Caprice suspension is in an F100, maybe the springs were overly tall to begin with.  Normal ride height would put the lower ball joint pivot about an inch lower than the inner control arm pivot height.  So, you can trim the spring enough to get the lower ball joint an inch or so above the inner pivot, without getting in travel trouble.  Hope this helps!

Thanks guys. Fatman, that is what I was affraid of. I guess I'll cut the springs.
This just seals the deal of me building a new chassis down the road in the future.
Thanks again,
