...have GEARBOXES.
There. I said it.
Why does everyone wimp out and use a automatic?
At least one poster sez it's so his wife can drive it.
Like..THAT'S an advantage?!
Half of us even go so far as to buy some Lokar shifter mounted to the floor so
people will THINK you've got a gearbox, sheesh!

Shifting gears is part of the driving experience.
I can see autos for the family sedan, but for your hotrod?
This is why Europeans think we're lazy sods.
Sorry, I feel better now.

i never missed a shift or exploded a clutch with an automatic
and with a ratchet shifter, i select the gears quite well, if not violently

I would rather get a stick instead of automatic just so my wife couldn't drive it.

your wife can't drive it if you don't give her keys to it!!

your wife can't drive it if the seats are stationary and she's shorter than you are

my wife doesn't have keys to the garage...or the storage shed...and feels lucky to have keys to the house...and no i'm not tyrannical, she just knows her limits

now if you'll excuse me, i have to fix dinner for the kids...SHE is at work

redneck life has it's merits

Sorry, I had to get in on this.  I married my wife because she could drive a stick.  I jokingly told her it's what sealed the deal.  She even manages the ol' 3 on the tree quite well!  Now if I can just teach her to weld!

women usually weigh much less than men, making them the perfect driver at the racetrack however mine has a hard time driving and listening to the radio at the same time

i married my wife because we have similar interests in cars, sports, music, many other good reasons and love her more than i will EVER admit to...

her father had done some work on her first car in the late summer/early fall and hadn't put any antifreeze back in the radiator but let her drive the car for a few days to ensure no leaks and such and intended to finish the job on the next week-end...temperature took an unexpected drop (like below freezing) and he called her to ask if she or one of her guy friends had put antifreeze in the "car"..."oh yes dad, it's got 2 gallons in it"...the 2 gallons were in the trunk...I know her limits...she gets NO hot rod keys

Yes, I have to admit it, though... I'm one of those guys who put a Lokar shifter in my truck.  It originally was equipted with an auto, and I came across a 700R4 fairly cheap, so I retrofitted it in.  But I've always liked the look of the floor shifted gear boxes, gives it more of a vintage look.  Besides, you get a reverse lock-out with the Lokar, with-out the pains of a ratchet shifter.  As far as getting the 700R4 for cheap, I was at a Whitetails Unlimited Banquet and won a new muzzleloading rifle and traded my buddy for the trans.

I think you got the better end of that trade, unless the rifle was made up of gold.
