I really need some help here. I'm not even sure where to start to look for a classic truck let alone decide on a yea/make/model.

My husband is currently in Afghanistan serving the final 4 month of his 12 month tour. He is a Kiowa helicopter pilot for the Army....

Anyway, he has always wanted a Classic Truck. I thought I would surprise him with one as his "Welcome Home" present. I have spent much of the day searching craigslist, and campbellyardsales.com.

Needless to say, I'm ovewhelmed. He isn't the most handy at fixing cars. He can do a little more then the basics, but a full restoration - no way. Any ideas?

If anyone has time and wants to look at what's available in my area to help me out I would greatly appreciate it. You can check those 2 above mentioned sites. My zip code is 37040 (for craigslist). I wasn't looking to spend too much on this.

A great truck for his to "start" restoring would be great. Do they actually make books/manuals on how to restore Classic Trucks?

If I had to guess somewhere from 1950-1968. I know that he really likes the Stepside type also.

craigslist might not be the best place to search for an older vehicle...
i saw one 1970 (newer than you specified) model truck out of the first 300 listings...
try autotraderclassics.com, there you can use several filters to modify your search
i also recomend help from a personnal friend that is knowledgeable of automobiles before you buy anything...you're more likely to get a better deal and your husband will enjoy your gift more

and tell him that another vet says THANK YOU

Craigslist is a great start. Do you plan to buy him a restored truck or something he can fix up?

I see from your zip code that you live in the Clarksville area .  I have a web site you might try ( www.tennesseeclassictruckclub.com ) ! There are members on that site from all over the state . They also have a classified section where you might find something to buy or maybe they could point you in the right direction as well . You might find something on Craigslist or www.dealsonwheels.com ? I live in the Chattanooga area but if there's anything else I can help with , just ask ! Good luck !
