I have a 47 chevy 3/4 ton, wanting to fix it up, I think I want to make it a 1/2 ton. Any ideas for new front and rear axles and suspension? What will fit under the frame?  Also wanting a bigger motor, possibly 350, maybe bigger. Any ideas for motor and transmition? Don’t really know a lot, just the basics, but if I get pointed in the right direction I can take care of it. Thank you

I have a 50 3/4 ton or model 3600. Why do you want to make it a 1/2 ton.  With todays technology you can get replacement springs to make it ride better. Yes it will still ride like a truck but guess what...it is a truck. If you want to put a 350 in it it is'nt that difficult if you have some basic wrenching skills.  You will have to install a power steering conversion kit which will relocate the steering box to outside the frame rails to make room for v-8.  I cut the original shock mounts and spring perches off and welded them on to a 72 nova rear end.  That not only gave me modern brakes but geared the truck so it cruises at 75.  Let me know if I can answer any questions for you.

Many years ago, Classic Trucks had an article about putting 73-up suspension under an AD frame.  I'm working on one for my 49, right now.

Personally, I like 8-bolt wheels.  They look strong.  I wouldn't trade my 1 1/2 ton rear springs for all the gold in Fort Knox, or all the harps in Heaven.... but, I haul with mine, so move toward your own goal.

I did the original restore the first 10 years owning my 3600 and drove the 8 lugs with drums and now have gone to a 5 lug Hotchkiss rear end with 3.55:1 gears and a half ton front axle with GM disc brakes and Vette dual master cylinder.   Ol'blue now runs down the hwy and stops like a truck some 50 years newer!

To the guy looking for the 17" stock wheels!. I've got two for sale, and pretty sure of the whereabouts of a couple more. I'm in the eastern part of Ohio. Not sure if you want to pay the shipping to get them. Might cost more than the wheels. It's your call. Give me a call 1-330-549-5134 on Thursday between 8:00 am  and 12:00 EST  and we'll discuss the price. Don't worry, we're not talkin' bout breakin the bank!

Well! It's been 4 days since I posted info about some 17" stock wheels w/split rims , that someone wanted, with no reply.  They're in my way, so they're going to the scrapyard along with the axle from my 51  3/4ton Chevy including the 8lug brakes that someone else wanted. Also scrappin the inline 6cyl engine and trans. Don't make any difference how cheap I try to sell stuff to help someone out, I still can't git rid of it. Maybe I'l cut it up with a torch so the scrapman can't turn around and sell it and make the profit. Yaa that's what I'll do. Too bad, so sad! It's outa here.

I don't do the E-bay thing or craigslist. Don't have the time to sit on the phone waiting for it to ring. Those parts are history. End of story!

I've had some success on selling stuff on craigslist but like you said it's a waiting game and can become annoying. Good to hear you got rid of the parts.
