As I mentioned earlier I have a 55 first series with a 235. I recently found out the engine was out of a 58 or so truck and I was wanting to try to keep that engine in it. So are there any inexpensive ways to get a little more giddy-up out of a 235. Also does any one know of any novice trick or of a transmission that will mate up with a 235 that will give me more highway speed. I heard somewhere that a S-10 trans will work but you need to do some work to it and change out the bell housing. Any help or info on stovebolts will be helpful.

mopar a-833 4 speed w/overdrive is a good bet on the cheap, or the s-10 borg warner 5-speed, will work if you keep your hp low. The best tranny would be the new Tremec 5 and 6 speeds, but pricey. For the mopar you'll need a 23 spline yoke from a latter GM product. The Mopar would be found in certain dusters and dodge products that had the 225 slant sixes.

Those Tremec's are nice. I know someone who is doing an Elky and if he had the money he would throw one in. If you can afford it then go for it.

D'jo know some of th' 58-9 year Chevys had DANA rear ends in them? Seems a 'mopar' tranny is not so far fetched.. All th' old timers tell me was there was a recession then and maybe a supply shortage? Mid-year assembly? Found at least one inna 58 'ecnonomy/fleet model.
