I tried a search for this topic already and didn't get good results which tells me this is probably a simple procedure but I've never done it. Is there a website with this info or does anyone here have some helpful advise? She's idling good but has no real power and idles rough in gear and will sometimes die if I don't shift it into neutral when coming to a stop. She will also spit and sputter for a few seconds after I shut her down. Thanks for your help.

You will need a manual for the proper setting.. The procedure is easy ..two people is the best way . That is how I got involved with cars and trucks at age 10. take off distributor cap and rotor. You need the high side of lobe to be aligned with the points so they are opened at their biggest opening. If you can turn fan belt to turn over engine is one way but the other way is to bump starter with key so it turns and stops at the right spot. That is where the second person comes in handy so you don't have to go back and forth......Dude

Thanks, Dude. It appears that the timing chain may have skipped a tooth. When I align the timing mark with the 10 for 10 degrees BTDC the number 1 piston is already topped out. What do you think?
