reverse lights for 1976

I need help on a 1976 gmc royal sierra 15. My reverse lights won't work and I don't know the problem. I replaced the bulbs and they still didn't work. Please help me out.

Automatic, or manual tranny?
If it's a manual, check the wiring & switch on the tranny. Trace the wiring back to the fuse panel, or ignition switch. Also, make sure the sockets are properly grounded. If it's an auto, check the wiring through the neutral safety switch, on top of the coulumn, under the dashboard. It's easiest to get to, by removing the column mount, and dropping the column onto the seat.

Would this be the same as the '78 as well and how exactly does one remove th colum mount
