Hi all, I bought this truck 4 years ago for my son when he was 12. I thought it would be a great project for us and by the time he was sixteen he'd have something really cool for his first vehicle. So much for great thoughts, he never took to it and did not ever want to work on it with me. I was really bummed about that as my dad took off when I was six and I wanted things to be different for my son, but that’s a whole other story. So now four years later he's into rice burners and I have a 56 F100 to myself.

Over the years I have slowly worked on the mechanics. It has a 351 with a truck 4-speed. I've finally got it running fairly decent. I installed a 650 Edelbrock performer series manual choke carb and a one-wire procomp GM style electronic distributor. I have to keep the choke on for it to run right even after it is warmed up or the engine just stalls out when taking off from a stop or when trying to accelerate. Works great if I keep it choked???

It has a later model Ford tilt column which has an annoying amount of play in the shaft bearing, I haven’t spent much time on that problem yet as I have been working mostly on trying to get the signal canceller to work, no luck yet.

Somewhere in its life someone installed a twin I beam front suspension. It’s a pretty clean conversion however it is in definite need of a rebuild; all the rubber parts are worn and crumbling. Don’t know much about these.

It did passed inspection a few days ago and I am starting to drive it some, its pretty fun to tool around in.

I could use some pointers and any help and advice would be welcome. Thanks.

All of the parts are available for the complete rebuild of your front end. Do you know what year the twin I-beam front end is out of? Does it have drum or disc brakes. Jack up the front and grab the tire one hand at bottom and one hand at top and try and move the tire back and forth. If there is any movment you need to replace the kingpins. ........Dude

HEY Dude,

the previous owner thought it was from 1984 1/2 ton van. Has discs on front.  Seems like I've checked the king pins, I think they were fine, I'll double check one of these first daze. Thanks Dude.
