I have a 1969 C10 Stepside with an L6 engine. I have spent many hours trying to find what engine is in the vehicle and if it matches the ID number of the truck. I have deciphered the ID and finally the Engine #F0321PP (almost, as it doesn't add up). From what I found the PP stands for a 1965 283, which I don't believe it is. Any ideas?I tried checking all block casting numbers and my number 3921968 is not listed at all, in fact of the hundreds listed only one even starts with 392xxxx. By the way, after many many double checks, I am 100% sure of these numbers, including the exhaust manifold casting number 3923418 of which there is also NO listing, and again only one or two which even begin with the digits 392.I have been to all of the sites I can google which help with engine, casting and ID numbers to no avail. Also, I've found that VIN search sites cannot find a 12 digit ID number, my 1952, 53, both 69's, nor my 1970 can be found. What size engine do I have???? Can anyone help? Thanks,Larry (data89)
they came from the factory with a 289 or a 350, you have a 283 prob
See, now here's what others have said and also the shop manual...that it came from the factory either with 230, 250, or 292. So now I have 6 choices. Aren't all 350's 8 cyl? I'm just asking, I don't know, but this is an L6 engine.
see http://www.chevyc60.com/the_engine_page.htmthe apache i have in the back of my shop is a l6 292, you can tell by the aircleaner
also look here: http://www.6066gmcguy.org/hope it helps
In my rebuilders book that number is listed as 3 different engines in differtent years,it says in 64-70 it is a 230,53-63 a 235,and 67-72 a 250. Seems kinda strange but that is all i have for you hope it helps. The block numbers must be the same and differtent cranks or bore sizes to make the differtent engines.
Thanks, I did find out from more research that the PP on the end of the engine number makes it a 250 CID w/manual transmission, emission controls. Now, I'm trying to find a source for the casting number on the differential. I saw it somewhere, but, have looked so many places I can't find it again. The number is 3896888. Basically I want to know if it's a posi and if possible what brand...Eaton???
Sorry don't have any #s for them but most of them trucks had a sticker behind the seat that said it was a posi and a plastic tab on the oil plug to tell you it needs posi oil.But i have found posi's in one that are not marked took one out and put it in my 81 chevy half ton 12 bolt and it was the best posi i have had.It runs a clutch pack with springs in it not that garbage govener lock in the new ones!I think they are just 12 bolt GM corparation.
