I just inherited a 1963 Chevy truck. I was able to find out all the vin numbers for it, but was unable to figure out what kind of transmission is in it. The truck has a 230 engine in it and a 4speed manual tranny. I was wondering if there is a place i could go to or a web site, to find out what tranmissions were available for that year.
Welcome to the forum,My book says the only 4 speed avalable is a Muncie. The code should be on the left side of the case just below the power take-off.The code should have a M as the first # and the rest tell you the year and day and shift it was built on.Don't know what model it is but only had one.
Try going to http://www.drivetrain.com/parts_catalog/manual_transmission_overhaul_kits/sm420_manual_transmission_overhaul_kit.html , you might be able to decode your tranny ! Good luck !
