I just bought a 1979 Chevy cheyenne and i wanted to put a new engine in it but idont know which engines fit in my truck. Can anyone tell me all types of engines that fit in my truck? ThanksMy transmission is a 700r4 I dont know if that makes a difference or not. I dont really know much about these trucks all this is new to me.
1981 and earlier motors will be the easiest fit..75 to 80 are your best bets..you mention NEW motor... there are a BUNCH of options on brand new motors.. you also have a LOT of options in various combos...depending on if you need to SMOG test the truck...and what you are planing on doing with the truck..are you looking for slightly improved fuel economy.. or improved power.. describe your needs and which motor you have.. that truck did have a few optional motors..1979 Chevrolet C20 3/4 ton P/U 2WD:Available engines6 Cylinders D 4.1L 2BL (found in 99% of 1979 Chevrolet C20 3/4 ton P/U 2WD)6 Cylinders T 4.8L 1BL (found in 01% of 1979 Chevrolet C20 3/4 ton P/U 2WD)8 Cylinders L 5.7L 4BL OHV (found in 84% of 1979 Chevrolet C20 3/4 ton P/U 2WD)8 Cylinders R 6.6L 4BL8 Cylinders S 7.4L 4BL (found in 15% of 1979 Chevrolet C20 3/4 ton P/U 2WD)8 Cylinders U 5.0L 2BL OHV (found in 01% of 1979 Chevrolet C20 3/4 ton P/U 2WD)
I want to get a rebuild motor to be more specific but if its new it could work out too. And yes i need it to SMOG test it and also i would like more power.MPG doesnt really matter but i dont want an engine that will suck on gas like a crazy like a 454.I was thinking about a 350? But which one would it be best?I bought my truck and the guy that i bought it from said it had a 92 chevy camaro 305 motor in it. But i wasnt sure because it did not look like a 92 camaro engine so i looked up the engine serial number and came out with this : 14093627 after doing research it was a 88 camaro engine I think. My money budget is under $2500
