Hi all. I'm looking for a set of rear brake drums for a 1957 3800 series, 1 ton, 2 wheel drive truck. They are 14" with 8 lugs. If you have a clean, cut-able set, please let me know. Thank you!!

well you did not mention where on the Planet you are located..

in the SO cal area...

there are a few places to call..

jones brothers auto parts in los angeles... sometimes known as jones brothers brakes..

or drum garden in wilmington ca... about 20 miles south of downtown los angeles..

desert valley auto parts.. is a giant wrecking yard in arizona.. i have gotten drums from all 3 places over the years..

that year came with 12 inch drums up front.. but could also have either 12 or 14 inch drums in the rear...  i am taking that you are measuring the SHOE size or the ID of the drum.... not the OD of the drum..

there have been places.. that can install new sleeves to remove the worn section.. depending on the amount of wear.. and how thick the residual drum is...

there has been talk of using spray welding techniques to build up the worn area inside the drum. then machine is back to standard size..  they use this technique to repair diesel engine block deck surfaces allows BIG DIESEL builders to restore a perfect surface at the proper compression height... and also build up areas in cylinder heads after cracks had been ground out..

lastly... and it would not be speedy.. or cheep...   find somebody who has connections in china.. they can duplicate the drums and cast them..  but they like to make batches.. not pairs..

there might be some foundries here in the US that could actually pour them..

i worked in a parts store in los angeles that used to have connections to do that..

and lastly.. there are thousands of parts stores across the country.. and several dozen chevy truck parts suppliers...

perhaps this might help...

i really wonder ...   about perhaps checking out the local mid size truck parts supplier.. or mid size truck section in the wrecking yard...

perhaps... some of the delivery trucks.. or even motor homes might have a donor axle with BETTER rear brakes that parts can actually be gotten for..    sorry..  i should have started there in the first place...

measure your leaf spring widths.. and from the inside of one to the outside of the other.. that will give you the spring centerline..

you MAY or will have to upgrade the brake master to a dual system..

be sure to WRITE the VIN number down of the donor vehicle... a partial may be on the housing.. that way you know what application to use for parts replacement.

take the front axle measurements with you....  you might find that the newer one can be installed..

lastly .. if you are not taking the brake master... do note the bore diameter of the brake master.. its usually cast into the side of the brake master..

yep... a HOLE HEAPING LOT MORE WORK...  being able to stop a 60 year old truck..   PRICELESS..
