Hello all, I'm new here, my father and I are starting a project with a 1950 GMC 5 window, 1/2 ton.

It already has the factory heater and defroster in it, I remember several years ago in one of the Classic Truck mags (Classic Trucks / Custom Classic Trucks) an advertisement for a facotry sized heater box with heat and AC that would hook to the factory defroster ducts.

Naturally I can't find the add for the vendor, even in my back issues, so my question is, after searching here and not finding any mention of them I'm wondering if anyone out there knows of any vendor that supplies one, or can retorfit one into the factory box?

We plan to rally the truck to speedweek 2013, hence the interest in AC, coming from Alaska that's a mite warm and space is at a premium.

Never fear, I wouldnt leave all of you with so little information about our project and plans, after asking such question.

We are the second owners of the truck, it will be left with as much of the Patina as possible for now (focusing on mechanicals first) as the boddy is somewhat ragged (they used to salt the roads here quite heavily, that coupled with being parked in a field since 1973 hasn't been entirely kind to it).

The 228 isnt fully stuck, but it isn't running, so we bought the wreckage of a 2WD 2004 Trailblazer complete with the 4200 and plan to install as much of the drivetrain from that into the Jimmy.

No we don't want a V8 for it (I have plenty of them if I wanted) and I have swapped several late model engines complete with their electronic controlls, and have been reasearching this particular swap over the past few years.

We have even contemplated swaping the Trailblazer chassis under the bodywork of the GMC (looks like we would have to wident the fenders just like GM did with their Suburban).  Interesting concept, we'll have to see what devlops when we can get them out from under the snow.

Thank any of you that can help, and I hope you enjoyed the description of our "plan".

i don't have an answer for your question right now.. one of the other members might recall ..

i will look around and see what i can find over the next week when i have some free time..

if it was in an ad.. it could have also come from a small company that has gone..

don't forget there is also custom classic trucks magazine.. could be in some of their issues..

spend some times looking at the various components available here..

there is a download manual available ..

http://www.classicautoair.com/47_55_Chevy_GMC_Pickup_Truck_Air_Conditioning_Chevy_AC.html

there are probably more suppliers with their own versions...

Thank you, I hadn't seen that page at Classic Auto Air (was checking others).

In the pic abbove, yes, I believe that is the unit we have currently, but I haven't had it out of the truck yet.

I was working on one of them 4200 the other day and thought that would be a good swap because of room in the old engine bays!Should be interesting post some pics when you get started.
