Hello, classic truck people! I recently purchased a 1969 Camaro, which was alleged to have the original engine in it. Imagine my surprise when it arrived at the shop for the rebuild, (of what should have been 396/325) when I discovered the block is none other an from a 1969 Chevy C-10 pickup big block, 396/310 HP which is for an L66, 10, 20 or 30 which would have had a 400 transmission.
It is a T0106YP assemble date (January 6, 1969); Block casting is: 3935440
This block in in Ohio, near Akron at the engine shop, where my beloved Camaro is sitting waiting for me to find the correct engine. I thought I would post here here before I put it on ebay.
Worth mentioning is that I also have 454 Heads (1985-89 Open for a truck) which also came with my 69 Camaro. 14092360. They are also for sale.
These need to go asap for two reasons. 1) Taking up space; and 2) need to reinvest the money in the correct block and heads. Please feel free to pass this along. Robin

just a few thoughts from the side lines..
are you building an AUCTION CAR... one to go across the auction stage so it has to be a correct block and heads.. even if its not a numbers matching block... or transmission...
lets look at the actual casting number
3935440 1968 (mid/late) 1969 (early) 396 396 325(4), 350(4), 375 325(4), 350(4), 375 Used for all 396 applications from mid to late 1968 and early 1969. Production stopped approximately August of 1968 although supplies would have been used in production until exhausted. Casting date on the right lower side near the freeze plug in front of the starter. Has 'tall tower' distributor casting boss.
so now... all you need are heads.... since those are peanut port heads.. did they have the peanut port intake installed also?? i would think that those heads would be snapped up quickly just by somebody local who needs them for their truck...
just a question... did you witness the removal and tear down of the motor??? or check casting numbers before your took it to a shop???
who verified the engine was the correct engine before your purchase...
once the original engine with the matching vin number stamping on the block is gone.. its not a numbers matching car any more ever... sorry...
once some transmission shop has swapped the transmission for one off their shelf.. its not a numbers matching car any more...
