I am working on an '83 C10 project. I love the truck but don't like how the bed is un-even when looking at it from the rear. My mechanic told me it was the frame but this truck drives straight as an arrow and turns smoothly. When I purchased it, the drivers side tank was disconnected. All fuel lines were gone for some strange reason. I am wondering if this lack of weight on the drivers side may have caused the leave springs to wear un-evenly. My next repair will be to buy a new drivers side fuel tank and replace the leaf springs. I hope this evens out the bed. The two tone paint seems to further expose the crooked bed by showing the uneven paint lines. I was wondering if anyone has had the same issue? Here's a little blog I'm using to keep track of what I've done so far to my Chevy C10 project. Thanks,

find your 83 chevy pickup factory service manual or body service manual...there are 2 books.. i only have a chassis manual for a 90 handy or probably an early 60s.. in storage... you will want to find the frame dimension chart...find a totally level.. checked with a long level place to park your truck... measure from the frame downward to the DATUM plane.. from the various areas.. i have found some very straight 2x4s and hung them on brackets under the truck frame to use as a measuring point.. and no they will not likely be level.. find a datum point behind the front wheels and in front of the rear wheels and level that to the measurements from the chart...this should give you the ability to measure anywhere along the lengths to the frame rails.. and to the bed... to give you a good idea of what's bent... i have done this on other cars with all thread in jack stands... so i could fine tune the chassis to exactly level.. for measuring.. there are many ways to handle this.. you can also change the body support bushing thicknesses by adding or removing shims to equal out the body sections.. you will want to take some string or tape and measure your tire around the outside.. see if they are the same size..
here is a frame chart and dimensions for a 73 to 80http://www.chuckschevytruckpages.com/framespecs.html
Thanks! Great information. My truck didn't come with manuals. Got it form a police auction. But I have a starting point now.
