Hello,

I'm an architect designing a house for a client who owns a number of classic pickup trucks, including some '46 Apaches and 57' Pickups. The house is on a long, narrow lot and needs a driveway that is perpendicular to the public street. The trucks will need to turn into the driveway and turn again into the garage. What should I figure for widest likely turning radius on these trucks, in order to determine the proper driveway width and garage size?

Thanks,

D

i will have to check into this.  its usually in the original brochure .. but you might want to be aware.. that a lot of these trucks have later model front suspension on them... where the whole front third of the frame has been replaced ..

if the driveway and garage area is flat.. without any pitch for run off.. you will need curbs around the outside to keep the rain and water in the driveway instead of wicking in around the edges...

with a truly flat concrete surface... there are GOJACKs. and variations to allow owners to support the wheels and roll them around..

are you going to have a second floor... can you design in a FALSE garage door. that looks like the rest of the house... that lifts to drive thru into the back yard.. with the bedrooms over this area...  proper fire rated covering and fire rated insulation behind the covering.. ... i don't have to mention about this..  probably sprinklers built in.. even dry nozzles in a freeze prone area..

this would allow you to have a little more width to the driveway without reducing the square footage of the house...

sorry.. i ended up with 3 semesters of architectural drafting in school a LONG long time ago.. only used it a few times...
