Does anyone know if there is a company that offers a disk brake conversion kit for a 1970 Chevy 4x4? The truck has manual drum brakes and I want to convert the front drum brakes to disk. I also want to convert to power brakes as well. I bought this truck for my 16 year old son, so I want to make sure it's safe. If anyone could offer any advice I would really appreciate it. Thanks
you did not mention if its a half ton or a 3/4 ton truck.. 5 bolt wheels or 8 bolt wheels.. properly assembled with freshly machined drum surfaces .. the 4 wheel drum brakes will STOP that truck under all but extended downhill riding the brakes until they melt times.. there are all kinds of 4 wheel disc kits out there.. there are so many ways to go.. just switching the front to DISC brakes is usually enough.... that involves just swapping on a slightly later front disc and hub set up.. again.. depending on which truck you have.. click this link at the bottom of this page..then find the our sites tab... there are several 4 wheel drive truck magazines on this site.. out of about a dozen various truck magazines.. they all have forums.. but what's better they have tech sections that will usually have this kind of swap already performed and articles on it..the issues in print also have ads that are not seen online.. .. since there are over 40 car and truck magazines i don't get them all in print.. list 5 or 8 lug.. i will search some out.. or post this question with the 5 or 8 lug info there.
