I have a 55 1st series. I am putting an IFS, V8 , boxing the frame and fixing lots of rust (floors, door bottoms fuel filler hole, etc.). It' kind of overwhelming me where to start. I do get fix the frame and under carriage first or fix the rst i the cab first? It's my first real oject. I'm stumped.
separation.. if you have room... which one .. work on both.. some on one.. some on the other.. lots of measurements first.. use perhaps a plumb bob.. masking tape on the floor under the plumb bob centers.. then you can actually measure between the locations easily.. don't forget to include the height of each measurement. some where you might be able to find a frame dimension chart.. that will help.. so you can set your frame up to the datum line to measure it properly.. so you can perform your work.. and keep it square.. move the cab off to the side on a rolling stand.. so you can work on it.. and move it around.. these are from another forum members 55 truck rebuild.just to get you excited about your build.. there is a whole forum post someplace on that build.. here are some articles that might help you i found the other day for a different post..these are front clip articles.. http://www.classictrucks.com/tech/0910clt_art_morrison_enterprises_ifs_front_clip_install/viewall.htmlhttp://www.classictrucks.com/tech/1301clt_frontend_fix_fatman_clip/http://www.classictrucks.com/tech/1402_corvette_front_suspension/viewall.htmlhttp://www.streetrodderweb.com/tech/1310_bolt_in_corvette_independent_front_suspension_for_chevys/viewall.html
here it is.http://forums.chevyhiperformance.com/70/9254200/auto-body-work/55-truck-bodywork/that might help with some of the cab and body issues...there are a LOT of pictures..
Thanks for the advice Wayne. I will measure, measure somemore and measure somemore. Pull the body and start boxing the frame. I will post pictures as I go.
