Hello folks...newbie old timer from Vt. is hoping that someone might have some info on moving my engine in my 57 1/2 ton chevy about an inch or so forward in order to get the larger electronic distributor in and out. Would that mess up anything ?? Really appreciate your time..........thanks Ray Confused

pounding the firewall with the carb off and the distributor out may increase your clearance..

but picking up a small diameter distributor is the best bet..

since you did not post a lot of info.. i selected a small block chevy with small cap and vacuum advance...

its going to be cheeper to go to a small cap.. .than it is to move the engine or firewall..  drive shafts.. shifters.. clutch linkage.. shift linkage.. throttle linkage.. motor mounts.. its endless...

waynep...thanks for the response..and sorry I didn't include all the necessary info....new to this and I'll do better next time around....and it is a sbc.... the Pertronix distributor you listed first....is this the size of the original distributor ?? They say it has the same stock look...just want to make sure it will slide down in there...sorry if these seem like silly questions.....I didn't do enough asking when I purchased the new one a few years back....maybe I can sell that new one on ebay...... thanks again.....Ray

yep... i have pounded a few firewalls my self..

small diameter.. same as OE window cap....

those were the first 3 that had vacuum advance.. and also were small diameter...

there were over 290 options to choose from...

there are also several conversion kits that make your window type distributor electronic ignition..

i cover more than a dozen forums.. and have been doing this nightly for a bunch of years.. so i can guess what many people need.. i was also a school trained automobile mechanic for over 30 years..  its amazing what i know..

want to learn some stuff.. google my user name..
