The truck has a 360, four speed, (probably Muncie rock crusher), and heavy duty suspension and rear end, obviously since it was built as a camper special. It runs but as with all old, 100 percent original trucks, it needs a LOT of TLC. I am thinking about installing a new engine, rear end and changing to an automatic trans. Whole new drive train. Its a good truck and I have it registered for five years as a classic, makes it a good truck to have in Colorado, no emissions due on classics and good to go with the state for five years. Anyone on this forum have any suggestions about this, especially what automatic transmission/ drive shaft(maybe needs to be custom made and balanced?) and rear end combo will fit with minimal work to cutting the floor in the cab and making a cover for the top of the trans? A lighter duty rear end is desired as from a 150 or comparable. Thanks.
